I completed a BA Hons in Ceramics with Glass Design at University of Central England in 1998, following this I worked as a Shape Designer for the ceramics industry before returning to study in the world renowned 'Potteries' in Stoke on Trent.
I undertook a Masters at Staffordshire University in Ceramic Design for Production which was completed in 2003 and won many awards for my work including Jaguar Product Design Award and Johnson Matthey Shape Design Award.
I completed a PGCE at University of Central England in 2005 and have since taught Art & Design, 3D Design, and Product Design in Schools, University and MAC Birmingham where I teach termly daytime and evening Ceramics classes.
Alongside teaching I run my Contemporary Ceramics Practice 'Wendy Tournay Ceramics', from my home studio in Birmingham, England. I design, model and make by hand contemporary minimalist ceramic giftware and interior products that add beauty to the home.
Combining ceramic production processes of plaster modelling, mould making & slip-casting and using the finest English Bone China my ceramics are elegant, pure white and functional. I design products that challenge technical limitations whilst staying honest to their inherant material qualities.
I welcome commissions and have worked with Edgbaston Michelin star restaurant Simpsons to produce unique handmade petit fours plates, butter plates and ceramic gifts for their customers to commemorate their 25th birthday. I have recently worked with Harborne jewellers Silver & Love making bespoke jewellery display stands for their shop.
